We hit a snag. We failed our rough inspection.

When we arrived for our weekly meeting with our builder,
John Hammerschmidt, and his production manager Sean, their energy was different than it had been for our past few meetings. They were dashing about, generating possible solutions to the snag. They were close to using colorful contractor language.
One snag was that the courtyard window from the guest wing was placed smack through one of the 4x4 posts for the shear wall. Now, mind, the window was right where we'd designed it on layout. It was just that the framers hadn't considered that when setting up the 4x4 post. The other snag was that the inspector felt that the living room floor needed more joist supports due to the coffered ceiling. John's next step is to work with his engineer and develop alternatives.
The one clearly evident step forward was that our fireplace was installed.

We also hit a bit of a snag on aesthetics. The heating contractor had independently chosen to vent the heater straight up, through the roof. That could have been ok if it had been better matched to the chimney for the fireplace. Take a look, and leave a comment if you think we made the right choice in having John get the heating contractor to use a different vent arrangement.
Because of the structural elements, progress has now stopped.
